I just returned home from an 18 hour work-trip to sunny Miami (trust me, I wish it had been longer!), and literally missed the 2nd largest snow storm this month– AGAIN!
The weird thing was, a few hours before I left, about 20 seagulls circled our roof for over an hour. They were making all sorts of creepy noises, and when I went up there, they screeched even louder. Flashes of The Birds came over me, and decided it would be best to go back downstairs..

So my ol’ website of 6 years (that’s like 120 in Internet years, right?) is finally getting a complete makeover! I’m expecting it to take me a little while, as I’m trying to edit out a lot of things, as well adding all sorts of new goodies, but I’m excited all the same.
While searching though my virtual junk drawer of old files, I came across a few pieces I painted, scanned and completely forgot about. All of them were done for various gallery shows and have since sold, but I don’t think I ever got around to posting them on my site. Some of them are pretty old (when I used to work with acrylic!), but I still thought a few of you may be interested in seeing them.

The folks at Kid Robot contacted me a few months ago to come up with a couple of designs for their 2011 Dunny Collection. These did not make the cut.

Someone recently asked me why I’ve started drawing in this simplified style, and the truth is, I’m not sure!
I started doing these tiny portraits of friends and family as gifts I was giving, and now all I want to do is make everyone I know into a ridiculously cute stick figure! Anyway, we’ll see were it goes. This one was a little holiday gift for my dear friends Michelle & Drew.

I had this sketch for this posted a while ago, but then remembered that I never posted photos of the finished Coach bag from the event..

I’m so excited to be part the upcoming show, Is This Thing On?, presented by Gallery 1988 Melrose and Funny or Die. Each artist participating was given a stand up comic to base a piece on, mine being the lovable, Steve Martin.
I recently finished reading his book, Born Standing Up (which I highly recommend), which is an autobiography of his very earliest years doing stand up in the 1970′s. I decided to take the super minimalist approach to this piece, painting 2 small iconic objects on wood panels, and sealing them with resin. The show opens in LA on January 7th. rumor is that lots of the comics represented will be in attendance. Woot!

Up in my Etsy shop! A couple more coming up this week.
Last day for holiday ordering: This Friday, December 17th!

Since I travel back to Chicago for the holidays, in the 10 years I’ve lived in Brooklyn, I’ve yet to have a real Christmas tree in my apartment. So this year, I think we may resurrect our studio Christmas tree from a couple of years ago.
Made of dead umbrellas that we found on the street during a rainy night in NYC, it’s hung from the ceiling, weighted down with a rock, topped with part of a hubcap, and decorated with fortune cookie fortunes we collected for the year. It’s pretty ghetto, but it makes me happy anyway. Happy Holidays!

Made in collaboration with our friend, artist/illustrator, Andrew DeGraff.
I was so honored to be contacted by ELLE Girl Korea for a feature in their December issue. I answered a few questions for them, but I’m not quite sure what they ended up using, since I don’t read Korean. :) It still makes my inner teenager squeal with joy though. I have to say, the issue really is beautiful.. the photography is incredible!

Anyone read Korean?

UPDATE: A lovely reader translated this for me in the comments below.. I think the text going from English to Korean back to English, a few things got lost in translation, but I think you can get the gist of it.
And success! Just wanted to say thank you to those who came out to the Reed Krakoff Monogram event, I had so much fun and you all kept me very busy.. I’m happy to report that no bags or wallets were ruined as a result of spilling paint or shaky hands!

Last year I was honored to doodle on bags for COACH, and this year, I’m excited to announce that I will be painting on luggage tags for the amazing REED KRAKOFF at:
-Saks Fifth Ave. Tuesday + Wednesday, November 16-17th
-RK Flagship store Thursday, November 18th
All three events will be from 3-7pm. Come buy a beautiful bag or just stop in to say hello!

I’ve recently been doing small illustrations for a style column (a Geek style column to be exact), over at TheNextWeb. So now that it’s Fall, I thought this might be helpful to all of you style challenged, hat wearers out there. Click to enlarge.
