A couple weeks ago I was contacted by the folks at SoulCycle asking if I could customize a Louis Vuitton bag for a very special friend of theirs.. The one & only, Oprah Winfrey!
She wascelebrating her 60th birthdaywith a spin class and about 50 of her close friends, and they wanted a custom bag to commemorate the event. I hand painted the SoulCycle logo & some colorful stripes on the front, and some simple, tiny text across the bottom of the back. So fun!
Wow, no updates in forever! I’ve actually been really busy with a million projects & am now 8 months preggo, so things are getting really crazy. :)
Anyway, I’m so excited to finally share this one, as it’s very near and dear to me. My sister & future bro-in-law (also happens to be one of my closest friends from high school) are getting married this summer.. So when they asked if I could do their save-the-date, it was a no brainer. They wanted something simple and fun that also portrayed them, as well as their beloved pets, Moose & Charlie. I decided to do something in a similar fashion to the Save-the-Date from my wedding, but also tried to make it uniquely theirs. Really fun to work on!
I can’t believe this will already be my 6th year participating in Gallery 1988′sCrazy 4 Cult show! Time flies. In the past I’ve tackled PeeWee’s Big Adventure, Mulholland Drive,Ferris Bueller, Goonies, Escape From NY, & Strange Brew.. But this year I decided to do a piece based on my absolute FAVORITE movie of all time: Clue. I’ve seen it literally a hundred times, can quote it from beginning to end and still find it as funny as ever. this one was fun.

It’s been a long while since my last update, but things have been really busy around here with work & non-work related stuff. So happy to finally be back at it in the studio! I’ve been working on this piece for Gallery 1988 West’s upcoming Say Hi to the Bad Guy, presented by Crazy 4 Cult.
This time around artists will be focusing on their favorite villain from any cult film.. Even though I have many favorites, I decided to go with Frank Booth from Blue Velvet, because I believe him to be the creepiest, craziest bad guy of them all. A psychopathic drug dealer, pimp, and sadist, he is both a horrible and fascinating character, who easily has some of the most memorable scenes of all time.
Show opens Friday, October 18th at Gallery 1988 West in LA.
I did a fun, quick illustration yesterday for today’s Op-Ed page of the NY Times, all about the lack of diversity in the various role of ‘Doctor Who‘. Below is the finish (which ran in b+w), and a couple unused sketches. You can read the whole article here.
So excited to see this project finally come to life! Last year an old friend of mine, talented video director, Keith Musil, and I talked about how awesome it would be to collaborate on something. I came up with a few concepts and eventually fleshed out and wrote, Light As a Feather.
The idea was that a group of girls come together at a slumber party to play the old game, Light As a Feather, Stiff as a Board (à laThe Craft).. But it goes awry. The girl floats up, but becomes stuck midair and no one can seem to get her down. Her parents call the paramedics, pray for her, try an exorcism. Eventually as time passes on, they decide to hold a funeral and mourn for their loss.. The parents fall apart, lose the house and it becomes abandoned.. All the while the girl floats on.
After a while, the novelty of this floating girl fades away, and nobody seems to notice her up there anymore. People break in to the house, hold parties, trash the place. Years later, the house is knocked down, to become an empty lot.. And the girl is still there, most likely forever.
Keith decided to hold on to my concept until the right project came along. This year the LA-based band, Fol Chen, asked Keith to direct the video for a track from their new album, False Alarms.. When he pitched the Light As a Feather concept to them, they loved it! I can’t tell you how awesome it is to see one of my ideas in the live-action form.. Adds such a different dimension to my normally, 2-D work. Keith did such an amazing job with the video, I’m so excited to have collaborated with him on it!
